Gotta love this time of year for driving the 'Vette�.

My first car was a 50 Chevy coupe. It wasn't a beater by any stretch of the term, but I did buy it with a rod through the side of the block in 1955. I picked up a basic 55 V8 from a junk yard and spent a number of months trying to fit it into the car without any advice or written reports from anyone who might have attempted a similar swap. We were learning everything by ourselves by trial and error (V8 in place of a six, 12 volt electrical system in place of a six, drive train from an open system to a torque tube, clutch linkage, shift linkage, motor mounts, etc, etc, etc). The initial on the road result wasn't real pretty, but we developed it further through the next 3 or 4 years going to a 56 Vette engine build, and then to a 58 Fuelie engine. I had more fun with that car than any other since. On snowy nights in WI, I'd fill the tank and my buddy and I would go out and do a lot of off roaring in the parks, spinning every which way possible at full throttle and came close to rolling it a number of times. I could easily go through a tank of gas in just a few hours.
