Where i think the V nose helps is stability in the wind. I haul across mountains and deserts and I've done both standard nose and V nose the stability side to side is noticeably better. Agree with Jim, not much difference in milage. My V goes out over the triangle bracing of the tongue so no space is lost and some is actually added.

Right; my 20 ft trailer has a 20 ft box with 2ft extended over the rails for the V

My trailer's V does similarly. Trouble is that the V, which is very pronounced, extends so far that I can't attach traditional load levelers to the frame rails. I'm curious to see how others have solved this issue.... or maybe my trailer is simply an oddball for having such a protruding V and it's a non-problem on other V-nose trailers.
