Right on Ken I could afford my first Corvette in 1968. It was a 1964 coupe, 327/365. It was my only car and drove it year round in SE PA. I put studded snow tires on it and drove it like I stole it. Come summer, I blew the motor, went through two clutches and of course tires. I am with you, I would not trade those times for anything.

Jack -- something similar on my late 396. Car was purchased from previous owner by this family in early 1971, registered in the MOTHER's name. Not only that, it shows as a CHEV, probably for insurance purposes. This title reflects the son transferring the title to himself in Oct 1973. I've had a meal with him, and would judge him to be about 5 years younger than I am, putting him at about 23 years of age when he/his mother bought the car in early 1971. They kept the car until about 1981.

I've never seen a title that didn't have a space for "model". I thought they all did.

              Jim,

Look at the example posted in post #32...an old Texas title. No "model" just a "body style" (cv). I just looked at my current Texas title for my '67 and it's the same...no "model" designation just a "body style" (2dr)

You Texas guys sure do it differently. Does your registration have the model on it? All the states I've bought from, the title and registration have the same info. including the model and that's going back to the early 70's.

My same car (as post #32), when it spent a couple of years ('86-88) owned by a lawyer in Lake Charles Louisiana. The LA title shows make as CHEV; model (left blank) and body CV. Car delivered new to Ruston LA dealer, then mostly TX owners until back to LA lawyer in '86. So spent 23 years within a 200 mile radius before I bought it from a dealer in Denver and drove it north to its final (?) home in Alberta, where the registration (we don't have titles) shows make and model.

But I'm really intrigued with the number of Texan and Louisiana Corvettes that were titled in their MOTHER's name, back in the day. Another yellow 396 convertible, VIN 21841; the sales document shows sold to (mother) Marcella E. Liddell, although driven by the son(s).

                    Jim,
The registration certificate is derived from information on the title in Texas. There is an area titled "model" on the registration certificate but if there was no model designation on the title then the registration area for the model is left blank. And, you're correct...we DO do things differently here in Texas and we're really proud of it

How could there be a model designation on the title if there was no space for it? You Texass boys are bass-ackwards.

There isn't a model designation on the title...read again. There is a body style designation on the title.

I saw that too....CV...could be CorVette or could be ConVertible? You're a coupe owner like me at first didn't think about a convertible. Now if the car is a coupe then I guess the CV would stand for Corvette.

For clarification, maybe you should have said " SINCE (instead of IF) there is no model designation on the title, the registration is ALWAYS left blank". Regardless, that must be confusing for law enforcement when shown a registration for a 2dr. Chevrolet, it could be a Corvette, Impala, Station Wagon or even a P/U truck.

The title for my 60 says "CVTCV" Corvette Convertible. The one for my 65 says "CVTCP" Corvette Coupe.
