You can disable traction control and vehicle stability control on modern Corvettes, which is probably the case here. So what he had was equivalent to a sixties vintage big block with a 4.11 axle. Bang second gear and the rear tires break loose, so there's no rear traction -longitudinal or lateral. It's like being on glare ice, and a car can devolop a high yaw rate very rapidly. An experienced driver can usually correct by lifting off the throttle to regain rear traction and add steering correction as required, but the driver has to react and correct in a fraction of a second.I guess I don't understand why the driver put it in the ditch on a straight open road. Looks like an "on purpose" move to me. Do you remember the dude that drove the Veyron in the swamp? The back story turned out that he couldn't make payments so he tried to get an insurance payout.

This guy apparently had no idea what might happen and no idea what to do once the car started getting loose.
