    Florida Regional Hotel Rates

When several of us have tried to rebook the Hampton Inn, Lakeside Village, we are being told by the manager that the $139 rate is not applicable yet because they have been unsuccessful in getting a contract signed by the Florida folks. Is this going to be handled so the published rate for that hotel will be honored? At this point our group has at least four rooms reserved, but not at the $139 rate published.
    Thanks

Harry, Suggest you try to contact Ed Augustine of the FL Chapter for info. He's hard to reach but he tells me email is best. He should be able to help or direct you to someone who could.

Ed responds to my email but Tyler Townsley made a lot of those arrangements in past years: ttownsley@sprynet.com

I have sent both Ed and Tyler emails, but have not seen a response yet. I will keep you posted if and when I do.

The Hampton Inn says they have no formal contract with the NCRS. She mentioned Ed Augustine by name. If there is some valid issue the Florida Chapter should make us all aware.

Last year I stayed at the ....

                  Imperial Swan Hotel & Suites
                  4141 S. Florida Avenue
                  Lakeland, FL 33813

                  Phone (863) 647-3000

5.9 miles from SNF. It was okay I guess not excellent, rate then was $79. It was up the street from Dunkin Donuts which helped.

I have the full hotel list from last year but the prices are likely different,

                  Rich

edit. Attached Hotel list from last year, if applicable.

If I fly in from Dallas, which airport is the closest to the Regional location that is served by SW Airlines? Will I need to rent a car or are there shuttles that I could take from airport to nearby hotels?

                        Joe,

Tampa Int Airport is physically closer to Lakeland than Orlando Int Airport . I know SW air is serving Orlando, not sure about Tampa. I highly recommend a rental car as the Winter Regional location is in a rural area. It's about a 45 minute drive from the Tampa airport to the Sun N Fun facility taking Rte 4 then south a bit from there.

This is what the entrance looks like when you get to Sun N Fun. Do not attempt to get to Sun N Fun from the Lakeland Regional Airport Main Entrance. You MUST enter off of Medula and South Medula Rds.

It's a big place. Here's last years Check-In info which I believe will be the same this year.

It's a bit of a cruise from any nearby Hotel so even if there are shuttles I'd prefer to be independent with my own Rental.

Southwest DOES fly into Tampa. The Sun N Fun venue is about half way between Orlando and Tampa.

We're staying at the Courtyard Marriott. Stayed there last year too.

I just got a call from a friend that said some of the hotels are rapidly filling so you may want to lock in something soon.

On the other hand, I just spoke to the Imperial Swan Desk and they have no blocks setup yet for the week of the Event. I left a message for the Sales Manager regarding block rates and availability. I'll report back when I hear from him.

Last year standard rate was $90, and Event rate was $79.

Fellow members, it is 25 minutes on I-4 back to Kissimmee where you can stay from $35.00 to $65.00 per night. Stayed last year at the Sera Lago like that last 10 years for $35.00 per night. It's not the Hilton but it's not a dump either and the restaurants and attractions are close and familiar to all my NCRS friends. Some of us are creatures of habit as we frequent and eat at the same places year in and year out! Would not miss the evening at the Catfish Hole.
Please don't let the hotels drive up their rates like they do in Carlisle, PA. Just find one of the more economical hotels and let them get a block rate or go empty!!!!!
