What year is this GM part number for?

I have some NOS 12V CASCO cigar lighter elements in envelopes marked "Group 3.352 Part #3119884". Someone has attached a sticky with "51431" on each envelope.

Does anyone know what year these would be for?

    I'm guessing the C1 or C2 era.

They should also have a year on them.

No year on any of the ones in question. Perhaps they started putting a year on them more recently.

I've never seen a year before but now that you've mentioned it I will study all the others in my collection and see if there is a year on any of them

"63" and "72" are common stampings on casco lighter elements. mike

I'm thinking these may be for 56 or so.

Troy - As far as the lighter element used on Corvettes, the common lighter element stampings were "63 CASCO 12V. " in the mid 60s & "72 CASCO 12V." sometime into the 70s. Earlier, pre 1963, CASCO lighter elements were stamped "CASCO 12V". Pete

Something "does not compute" here. First of all, a cigarette lighter element would not be a group 3 assigned part. Group 3 is a fuel and exhaust-related parts group. Second, I can find no reference, at all, for a group 3.352. While it's theoretically possible that such a group exists, I can find no Chevrolet passenger car or light truck parts ever assigned to that group. If it does exist, it would likely have parts related to the carburetor air cleaner associated with it.

Third, part number 3119884 is a very odd part number. While part numbers of series 3119xxx were once assigned, I can find no record that ANY part of GM #3119884 was assigned to any Chevrolet passenger car or light truck from 1953 to the present or, even, that any part of that part number EVER existed.

Yikes! That is really weird, Joe. I don't know what to make of it.

The envelopes came stapled shut and below the group and part number is says "Lighter Element 1 Piece". So there is no question the group and part numbers are for this part.

I never expected it would be this difficult to figure our what year they are for. Apparently before '63. I'm guessing 50's.

I can't find that part number going back to 1937 and that's as far back as I can go. I can't find that group number going back to 1953.

It's possible it's a part number for a non-Chevrolet application but for a part like a cigarette lighter element I would expect usage across all GM car lines. The group number really baffles me. That's usually standard across all GM car and truck lines. As I mentioned, I can find no parts for any Chevrolet application in that parts group going back to 1953.

A photo of the packages might spur something.

                      Joe I just checked my 1929 - 1959 P & A and like you said nothing matches.

Troy, if you post some pictures of the elements we may be able to identify them that way. The envelopes, if hand written, may be just a typo.

For reference here is Group 9.709 which is where the lighters are....

And here's a CASCO 12V NOS 3710581 for reference too. Do yours look like this one?

Part looks similar to the last photo. It has a white ceramic insulator but it is not visible unless you the spring loaded shield is pushed back.

I will take some photos and then try to remember how to post. Its been a few years since I've done so.

It is 12V for sure so I can't be older than '53 if it is a GM part.

I just dug through my left over parts from my 59 restoration and found a baggie with that part #3710581. It was hand written, but it did match the description in the TIMJG. It says CASCO 12V, just like Rich's photo, which as far as I know was used on 56-62 Corvettes and very possibly other GM products.
