62 corvettes used generators, not alternators. however, any first generation GM alternator(with external regulator), will mount using gm bracketry. 2nd generation gm alternators, with internal regulators, will also mount using gm bracketry . mike

Mike all the alternaters i see on Summit Racing have internal regulators, then i would have to take out the regulator that is there now?

yes, the old generator regal;ator would need disconnected from your wiring harness. the alternator from summit should have instructions on wiring the alternator to the old c-1 harness. mike

Understand this is not a "restoration" action putting an alternator as Mike said. But if you are dead set on an alternator there are plenty of step by step procedures and availability on the inter web. Here are a few to get you started some dealers some tech.

Make sure you read the one from Mad Electric mentioned by Gene, especially the article about one wire alternators! Mark is a wealth of information, but as John Hickley once told me there are only two things wrong, one, he is hard to reach by phone and two he is hard to get off the phone, LOL. He was a tremendous help to me in rewiring my 62 for an alternator, stereo with two amps, changing the amp gauge to a volt meter.

                  A "new" alternator ?
Meaning you are already running one...
If not, what is wrong with your generator ?
Unless you've added a bunch of accessories a generator works perfectly..
I ran the original in my '61 for a dozen years including driving a 650W stereo amp...
