    Re: 1969 Corvettes

That Corvette is auto, i need manual and i have narrowed my colour preference down to either blue or yellow.

Should i abandon the idea of getting an original numbers matching car with real documentation, factory options, side pipes etc?. I don't want to loose all my hair on trying to find something that is not practical to find and if it was found, the price tag would probably be ridiculous?.

Should i instead just get a non numbers matching car and put the options i want on it. What are your thoughts?.

As far as wanting a car with it's original engine and otherwise matching numbers, it all depends what you want to do with the car. If you want to have it judged, then you probably want to keep looking for a car with it's original engine. If all you want to do is drive it, then a really nice condition car without it's original engine may suffice. It's up to you.

I have a very nice driver with its original engine, but the numbers matching thing goes beyond just the engine and can extend to the alternator, transmission, carburetor and differential. Other parts may need to be date coded properly to comply with normal assembly timing and procedures. I am NOT an expert at judging Corvettes (others have a world of knowledge more than I do) but having the car judged and seeking NCRS Top Flight is a very arduous (and expensive) endeavor. At the end of the day, you have to ask yourself what kind of car do you want.

You might never find a car that meets all of those criteria. Try broadening your search with fewer 'must haves'.

Also, the term 'numbers matching' is nebulous and vague. It carries no defined meaning. If you mean 'original untouched factory installed engine' best say so.

Here's a yellow one in the USA: http://www.mershons.com/vehicle-deta...5e1f68132ef97/
Just because it's advertised as matching numbers doesn't mean much and you would need to have it verified or judged. Also, there is no guarantee of running condition and systems, you might need to fix or replace brakes, gauges, vacuum components, weather seals, fuel components (e.g., 50 year old gas tank), etc., etc. You are better off spending more $'s and buying one that is corrected, fixed and otherwise runs great. You can buy a $40-$50K car and spend another $30K to $40K+ fixing it up and you will still have whatever the market is at, i.e., a $40K car.

That yellow one isn't too bad, not many factory options, i change my mind a bit, but ultimately i would like a big block if i can find what i want and can afford it . I have been open to convertibles, but i think the coupes are for me.
