I believe a lot of the Chinese reproductions, especially those for very low volume parts, are manufactured in tiny little, antiquated shops. They have minimal or no tooling and manufacture parts by "onesies-and-twosies" pretty much by hand taking advantage of very cheap labor costs. They seem to have a real knack for doing this but the quality is often an abomination.

            Thanks

William, If the rheostat is bad and not physically broken to pieces, it's probably just corrosion in the contact rivets. See this post for ideas how to fix it the DIY way. It's a 56-57 but similar methods can be used on your 096 switch.

Yes the Pink real GM 67-68 directional switch was the best; SheMar has never let me down; the import repro reliability I have heard about. Don't think we have ever had one & I don't know who is the importer. Because it crosses to other Chevy car line models, I suspect it may be from a Camaro vendor. Don't know who, who, whoooo ?
Do regret not keeping any NOS ones - I could have 3 potential candidates some day.

I share your frustration. Can you recommend a source for a reliable heater core that won't leak (other than NOS) ?
                Mike
I don't know of one currently - and have virtually stopped trying to source them.
When Harrison made them; they were great; can't remember a problem.
When Harrison sourced them in Mexico they were really a joke.
Sometimes they rattled in the box; not from solder in the core; but the tubes weren't connected.
If they were - they weren't oriented properly.
The following is a genuine OEM part - hencho in mehico.
It is not photo shopped. I sue miss the old days - pre 2014 at least

Buy locally from FLAPS; bring your original; compare it; they have generous exchanges - I guess they know it's krap too.

I need a couple of weeks yet to complete what I am doing, but I guarantee the results are going to amaze you. I will post a complete report as soon as I finish.

                  Dan,

I'm very interested in your findings. But I can't wait that long..... Please define "amaze you". Good or bad?

I remember that. What a joke.......like rearranging deck chairs on a sinking container ship.
