Be aware that DOT 5 silicone fluid is dyed purple when it's fresh. After it's been in a brake system for awhile the color changes to yellow. While it's a deeper yellow than DOT 3/4, it can be confused with those fluids.

I believe it was this thread that I asked how to tell the difference between Dot 4 and Dot 5 brake fluid. I was told that Dot 4 mixes with water and Dot 5 separates from water. When I removed my M/C, I tested the brake fluid by mixing it with water. The brake fluid stayed mixed with water, so I'm under the belief that I have Dot 4 in my brake system. I am not going to drain the brake lines when I re-install the M/C, so I will stay with the Dot 4 brake fluid.

      FYI..
