      Steuart's '65 and Stewart's '66 on Corvette Restorer covers, 1988 and 1984.

Re: POST OLD PICTURES of CORVETTES HERE - NOSTALGIA

Hurley Haywood is one of the most famous Porsche races ever, having won the 24 Hours of Le Mans 3 times and the 24 Hours of Daytona 5 times. But, as the saying goes, you've gotta start somewhere. This was Hurley's first real high performance car. He bought in the Fall of 1967 from Nickey Chevrolet. The previous owner traded it in on one of the new '68s. 427, 4-speed, sidepipes, the usual good stuff.

          Mark,
Do you know that that is a '66, or could it be a '65 with the vents removed? I ask since glen green was not a color in '66, and filling in the vents to look like a '66 seems like something someone could have done.

George, I suppose that's a possibility. Hurley said it was a '66, definitely had a 427 that the folks at Nickey had "warmed over". Here's a picture from the rear. You'll notice it had the popular at the time 6 taillight modification. They could have done a color change at the same time.

              Mark,
thanks. Great pics. I can't tell for sure whether that is a '65 gas lid, or not, but it sure looks like one. Any pics from the front?

The "Corvette" badge on the rear looks like the 66 version.

Nope. Those are the only pics. Maybe those cats on the roof left some scratches for future identification.

Not a picture, a short video. Saw the movie "Breaking Away" on TV today. It came out in 1979, was shot in 1978. Back when a '64 Corvette was just another used car: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IExD-J4_F8

FWIW it is a pretty good movie. Generally focused on the annual "Little 500" bicycle race at Indiana Univ and the interactions between blue collar locals and privileged college kids. However, IIRC, that was the only scene involving Corvettes.
