    Something interesting on my '68

    I'm sure I'm not the only one whose seen this but thought I'd share just the same.
    '68 SB roadster, 54K unrestored original miles.
    After removing springs, I noticed what appears to be some left-over slag from production in the upper spring well on the passenger side, about 1/4" in length. There's a corresponding wear mark on the upper coil of the spring which apparently indicates the left side spring was never seated since the car was produced.

    Yes, it appears it's just as you mentioned. However, I don't think this would have resulted in any big problem---just an example of poor quality control of the period.

    A bigger problem for you now is the rather severe corrosion of the spring tower I can see in your photo. In one area it even looks like it's perforated the steel. This problem might also be found in other areas of the frame and chassis.
