    If it is really a J and not a I there is a problem. It can't be machined before it was cast.

      Rick,
      Pictures of each would go a long way to see if a factory anomaly or a “restoration” faux pas. My guess, without seeing pictures, is that someone working on the car along the way made an error on acquiring and/or stamping the block. However, I would be happy to be proven wrong.

        F0928RF is the assembly data for an engine built at the FLINT mi. ass'y plant on sept. 28.th code RF is for a '62 fuelie.

          Are we all so sure about this letter "I" usage in casting dates? I don't recall ever seeing the letter "I" used, nor have I ever seen a photo of "I" used in a casting date.
