Re: NCRS judge
Nolan Adams book on Restoration 53-62 Vol 1 has on page 392 paragraph 3 & 4 says engine blocks and parts have dates cast into them. Yes! Now paragraph 4 says Date coding was alphabetical and the letter "I" was omitted.
So if a block casting date on the rear has J... that is Sept. The stamping on the front of the block also is stamped F09... However NCRS judging manual says J is Oct. This throws the stamping date off. What's up with all that? Any help would be appreciated.- Top

Stamped dates that use a letter for a month designation almost always skip the I, so in that case, J indicates September. (Starter, regulator, distributor, generator, etc.
block assembly date stamping (on the front pad) can be a little confusing, because they used an I character to designate a 1.
If you have additional questions on your 62, I would be glad to help. I have a bit of experience with them.- Top

Re: NCRS judge
Casting dates include an I for month designation. (September). The J would definitely indicate October.
