Re: Tank sticker identification number
Same answer as you got on this same post at Corvette Forum. Many of the people answering that post at CF are NCRS. The "Confirmation of Document" report compares the information (mainly the ident number to my understanding) on the tank sheet with what is recorded in GM records that NCRS has and they then identify if their finding indicates the tank sheet was originally created by GM.

Re: Tank sticker identification number
If you spotted a fake Validate NCRS tank sticker i would inform NCRS, that number is the birth Certifcate of that Corvette and how it was born only GM and NCRS have knowledge to these list of indent numbers that how NCRS can Validate the tank sticker to be the real deal and also the GM Window Sticker indent number on the upper right corner should match the upper left indent number on the tank sticker has the same indent numbers, there alots of fake Tank stickers and Window Stickers out there, before buying a Corvette with a tank or Window sticker get it Validate first by NCRS- Top

Re: Tank sticker identification number
Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure if its authentic or not... sure looks it... hence my questions. I was told that no one but NCRS has access to the data base of ident numbers and thus if a sticker has been authenticated by NCRS, using the ident number, it has to be real.If you spotted a fake Validate NCRS tank sticker i would inform NCRS, that number is the birth Certifcate of that Corvette and how it was born only GM and NCRS have knowledge to these list of numbers that how NCRS can Validate the tank sticker to be the real deal and also the GM Window Sticker number on the upper right corner should match the upper left number on the tank sticker has the same indent numbers, there alots of fake Tank stickers and Window Stickers out there before buying a Corvette with a tank or Window sticker get it Validate first by NCRS

Re: Tank sticker identification number
Click on SERVICES then drop down to HISTORIC DOCUMENT SERVICES and go from there.
Also as I recall the Ident number is the same number that appears at the upper right corner of the Window Sticker.

Re: Tank sticker identification number
Ed,
it is always possible that someone had an original tank sticker in rough shape with a readable ident number. They could get that verified, and then have a reproduction made up that is in better shape with/without the correct info. However, when I have sent them in, they come back with a copy of the document I sent them. Theoretically, one could detach that, make up one with different info (427 vs 327, added headrests, etc.). I am guessing that has already been done more than once.- Top

Boy Mike for someone with your background you certainly have a devious mind. That would not surprise me if your congregation believed in hearing confessions, but I believe that was not a practice of yours. Am I wrong? :-)Ed,

I am about to leave for a funeral service of that group that does hear confessions. I will pray for your soul.

Re: Tank sticker identification number
Mike you make a good point. Our hobby has changed since my beginning. Fake everything is now the norm. Numbers, and tags, on Corvettes and now paper work are suspect of being fake. If the paper work goes the way of engine pads it woun’t make any difference anyway. Will it be referred to as restoration paper work?Ed,
