For those of you have displayed your Corvette at Bloomington Gold what method was used to adhere the window sticker to the upper rear of the drivers window? This question pertains to a 66 Conv. It seems that they require some adhesive as opposed to tape or double sided tape. Any advice or suggestions appreciated.

Re: Window sticker adhesive?
I once had the pass side door glass , with original window sticker attached , that belonged to Grady Davis then Don Blatchley. there was a good deal of sloppy mucilage type glue that was between and around the sticker/glass . there was also a "willow Run sticker attached to the pass side glass. I gave the glass and sticker to a good friend who is restoring the 66 425 white roadster. mike- Top

Re: Window sticker adhesive?
the original glue from the Davis/blatchley 66 roadster , when I was given the glass in 1977, was a brownish color, similar to tobacco juice(I'm told what tobacco juice appears ). I realize that 11 years had passed since the glue was applied and it may or may not have been a tan/brown color in 1966. mike- Top

Re: Window sticker adhesive?
Right Mike, I have a couple of original window stickers from the '60s, and that old mucilage type glue (which you can still buy at Hobby Lobby) was TFP in those days. When I go to car shows, I use it for attaching a copy of mine.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: Window sticker adhesive?
I remember (?) when I got my 65 at dealer the window sticker was still on as I had requested. They sprayed it with window cleaner solution to wet the sticker and I peeled it off. It was pretty well stuck to glass 100% of surface area. I put sticker between wax paper under books to make it smooth when it dried out. Still have it too.- Top

Re: Window sticker adhesive?
Is it needed at Bloomington to have the sticker glued with old looking brown glue? I would like to use a copy and attach it with some kind of glue that is removable since I drive our car to and from shows and Indy is 200 miles from our home. Any advice on repositionable glue for this job?- Top

I have judged at Bloomington Gold for more than 20 years and I have never seen the method of attachment of the label criticized, but I must point out that almost all my judging there has been chrome bumper C3s. We understand the cars are sometimes driven to the event (not as often as many of us would like). We even sometimes ask the owner to lower the window as part of the Operations judging. I recall one case many years ago in which the original side window glass with sticker attached was presented to us off the car. We then had a brief debate regarding the originality of the window glass on the car. I will leave it to all of you to guess the outcome of that situation, but the end result was a lot of fun for all of us.Terry- Top

Re: Window sticker adhesive?
Terry, the car in question was built at St. Louis on 2-22-66. In your opinion would the sticker have been on the left side window when the dealer received the car? Selling dealer was Downtown Chev., Terre Haute, Indiana, and by the way always interested in any information on history of this car (Trophy Blue, Dark blue vinyl, 350 HP, white conv. top with aux. hardtop.)- Top

I'll spill the beans. My 1970 was built January 29, 1970. 1970 model year production was started January 5 for Corvette and Camaro was similar. My car arrived at the dealer (Chicago southern suburb of Blue Island, IL) on February 15. I can't tell you the date the Monroney sticker arrived at the dealer, but I believe it was close to the date the car arrived. I reluctantly took delivery the last day of February and the label had been on the car (with scotch tape) for most, if not all, of those two weeks. The dealer wanted me to take delivery on the 15th, so it had to be there then. The weather during that month was not conducive to Corvette driving, but I couldn't get him to keep the car in the showroom past the end of the month. I didn't understand "floor plan" back then.
BTW: There are significant differences in the face of these early mailed labels; but that is another story for another time. It is not germane to this thread.Terry- Top

Re: Window sticker adhesive?
I've owned multiple new 'Vettes since my used '69 purchased in '74. It surprisingly came with a window sticker-the previous owner kept it in the owners manual bag. I still have the sticker. For ones I purchased new in the '70's/'80's they had the mucilage type glue that has been referenced. I have kept them as well and some are showing signs of the brown glue residue more than others. My '84 was an early April '83 built car and the sticker arrived separately. It is a multiple part form and was mailed to the dealer unfolded. My salesman was a Vette owner himself and understood the documentation thing so he made sure I received it intact. I still have the sticker and that car as well. My 2014 is #307 (an early C7) and it arrived in October 2013 with sticker attached.- Top

Re: Window sticker adhesive?
The excise tax was changed as of January 1, 1966, and that change is reflected on the invoice as "BASED ON REDUCED EXCISE TAX RATE EFFECTIVE JAN. 1, 1966". With that being noted one may assume that all was up to date and the sticker was on the car when arriving at the dealer? I placed a call to the Bloomington Gold judging office requesting contact info for the 66 Division Director. The office is closed on Monday so maybe tomorrow will produce some info. Terry, thanks for the advice and will post here what he or she says.- Top
