Installing the side window glass back in to Window Channel

I wanted to double check with you guys regarding installing the glass back in to my side window channel. I have the new rubber grips as you can see. Directions from LIC say to place glass on end & tap the track back on. So, am I going to hold this window vertically & then slide this track with new rubber "DOWN" over the glass, or place this where it should be on the bottom of glass & then tap it on as a whole going into the track. My thoughts were to use some soapy water as well.

Appreciate the advice . All my original glass is intact. I don't want a OOP'S moment here. Thanks again !

Definitely use soapy water or you will likely tear the rubber.

I set the glass on edge (top down) and then set the rail over the glass and just tap it down onto the glass. It goes pretty easy.

Ok ,that was what I was trying to get out of this. I'll use my rubber hammer & move it down slowly a little bit at a time. Thank you.

Does anyone know how exact you have to be in position of the glass relative to the two ends of the channel?

Gary the front leading edge of the glass was 3/8" away from the LE of the stainless. The rear of the window was 1 1/8" away from the trailing end of the stainless.

I just finished up installing the power window motor & arms in conjunction with the front vent window assembly. Doing this is REALLY not TOO tough if you take your time , but getting that vent window in a coupe without scratching any paint---------------UGGGGGG. LOL.

                  Fred,

I guess I should have made those measurements before I removed my glass...

Gary, my apologies. 86 my last post--the measurements I gave were the remaining rubber left in my right side channel before cleaning.
See below---I double checked my left side ( still intact) we have 3/8" Glass overlap from stainless & 1/2" glass overlap rear. This should be darn close .

Gary, It isn't critical. In the past I have centered the glass in the track.

The attached is an article I saved several years ago. I followed the dimensions on the sketch (page 2) when I re-set my windows and I was very happy with the results.

The original glass setting tape was a composite of rubber and cork. I recently re-set all the side glass in my 65 using the same product, available at most glass shops. It requires using a petroleum product to make it swell and securely grip the glass.
