    Jacks Jacks Jacks

    Hi Guys,

Can't bring my self to pay the prices the prices they are asking for original jacks for my 61. Was looking at the Corvette Central one which, I understand to be a good repo that will pas judging and then I also heard that the Paragon was also good. In that there is a long wait to get one I was wondering it they are getting them from the same source. Does anybody know? The Paragon looks to be a better price.
Passed Top Flight recently and would like to go to next step.
    Thanks

There is/has been only one source for the real (good) repro jacks for a long time. Certainly detectable from an original.

      Hi Mike,

      Thanks for the reply.
      What would that source be?

Jack, there are no repros that will pass judging. Rivets are wrong and the base plate does not have the proper step down. how much are they asking for an original?

          Hi Bruce,

It varies. There are out there for $500/600.00 for a rough one to $1,000/1,200 nice one.

As far as I know there is only one manufacturer of the repo jacks.

In my opinion, the point loss is not worth the cost of an original so I too am looking at a reproduction. The problem is with both CC and Paragon, the wait time is two to three years! Whoever is producing these for these companies is cranking them out at a snail's pace for some reason.

Would this be considered to be a "real" jack? It's in my 56 which I bought in 73.

From what I can tell it looks real to me.

Ian, your right rivets look good. but you will get a deduct for no step down. I tried to use a drummel to grind down the base plate but no fooling the judges. i finally sprung for real deal.

Hey Jack, Those are pics of Tom Parson's jack. Here are pics of my buggered rivets. I think a judge can tell, but I gave it the college try. Out of the 15 points for originality, what is the typical deduct for the step-up and pristine rivets? Maybe 3?

                            Ian,
I'm curious about the step down you talk about. Could I see a picture of the area ? Thanks Rich

If you look at the seventh photo that Tom Parsons posted above, you'll see that the longitudinal ribs on the inside of the base "step down" from the lateral ribs to a small degree. On the reproductions, both the longitudinal and lateral ribs are flush with one another.
