Re: Carlisle - MAJOR TRAFFIC DELAYS

Stopped going in 07. I drove my 57 out for the 50 th anniversary. Just too hot, too crowded, hotel problems and that was the year of the storm. Sometimes I miss it but not that much.

Just heard from a fellow Corvette friend that Carlisle Productions just raised the "Corvette Tax" for admission to the event - now $20.00 PP!!!! I understand that admission to the Spring & Fall events at Carlisle are on the order of $12 PP.

Phil do you mean to walk through the gate? Last year I don't think I spent $20 on parts.

Just went on line. $20 to get in is getting crazy. I can see what the sons are doing. we drive all the shows away and say we tried but we can't afford to support the grounds with dropping attendance. In a Few years we will be reading about Condominiums at Carlisle!!

Re: Carlisle - MAJOR TRAFFIC DELAYS

Last year at Carlisle I found a 63 only A/C part that I've been looking for, for five years. It was in a box of parts at the bottom. Depending on what you are looking for and depending on if the seller knows what he has I believe Carlisle is one of the best venues to find the unobtainium parts. So to me $20.00 is cheap $$$ to find parts, see friends, smoke a cigar and have a beer.

Nothing is forever, it's ran it's course for the restorer and the only choice for Carlisle is to keep it an "Event"

I agree that $20 is okay for what you see there. Look for the boys from Waterford, MI at G1-G2-G3. We are there to unload some stuff that we are too old to ever use.

And, thanks for the weather forecast. Looks like a good one this time! (Williams Grove on Friday night!)

I agree that every year it seems to be more and more about the revenue for the show producers and they are soon going to price themselves out of business. There will be three of us going for two days, that's $120 in admissions. I just checked their website. On line it's $15 each + a $6 service charge so I am going to buy all six tickets on line before we leave for $96.

Re: Carlisle - MAJOR TRAFFIC DELAYS

I've never been to Carlisle due to the drive length (from MN) and the comments I always read about the weather, roads, hotels, etc. have always turned me off. I attended Bloomington Gold from '88 through the last year at St Charles and haven't been back. It's more into merchandising for the late models and less about swappers as has been mentioned previously. I had several cars certified and the cost for that has risen greatly as well as admission and all the extra 'perks' you can buy for parking, etc. A guy I spoke with at Road America two weeks ago has attended BG since the early '80's and he predicts it will not continue-at least in it's current format. Carlisle may be in the same situation from the comments I've been reading on this forum. It may have run its' course as a swap meet due to the internet as well as most restorable cars already being done. Still some to be found, but the supply is drying up.

Norm, rent a spot. As I recall it's $105.00. You can park your car there and everyone in the car get's in for the $105.00.

Construction is a fact of life. JD will be trucking to the show pulling my vendor trailer. Free hot air and cold water for the asking at the show.
I promise not to get dehydrated like last year. Bringing all kinds of drinks with "electric" in them.

Wouldn't miss Corvette Carlisle just because of traffic jams. Can't be any worse than going to Pittsburgh in the morning. Or can't be any worse than the days we went to St. Charles for BG. One year a guy was hauling a Refrigerator in his pickup truck. Well it fell off and trailer trucks ran over it. Take about traffic jam. Whew!!!!
I get on the PA Turnpike in New Stanton. It's 165 miles to the show.
Be there and quit your complaining old people.

Well stated John, too much pissing and morning on this thread. Thing is some of the silent are older than many that are complaining.

For all those going to Carlisle, I hope traffic is not a problem on I-81 but this news report that appeared on TV on Aug 15th suggests otherwise.

Having a 3 lane freeway reduced to 1 lane is a prescription for absolute disaster. If Pennsylvania crews were not equipped to do the work at night, then the state highway department should have engaged a contractor that was so-capable.
