'62 engine oil capacity

The owners' manual for my stock '62 340 hp 327 states "6 qts oil capacity with filter change." This correct? When and for what small blocks did it change to 5 qts with filter?

Thanks. And to all who still have the canaster type filter, be sure to remove old gasket and install new one or you'll have a nasty oil leak.

For 1963 the Corvette oil pan configuration changed dramatically from the C1 era. For 1963-74 small blocks there were 2 different oil pans used depending upon year and engine application. The "standard" configuration pan was for systems with 5 quart capacity with filter change. A differently configured pan was used for all 63-65 mechanical lifter applications as well as 1970-72 ZR-1. This pan was used with systems with a 6 quart capacity including filter change.
