    1966 Corvettes with M22 transmission

On a serious search and need some help....
The NCRS pocket guide lists that there were 15 installed from the factory.
Rumors are floating that they were installed in the 11966 L88 prototypes raced here in the Southeast (Daytona)
Does anyone have or know of a correct M22 originally installed in a 1966 from the factory?
If so do you have any original paperwork to support it?
What engine was it mated to?
Does anyone have a vin range for a M22 equipped car?

Actual GM Production records for 1966 indeed show 15 M-22 HD 4 spd. trans were installed but only in (L) 4-BRL 425 HP cars.

Has the NCRS Pocket Spec. Guide ever been updated from the original 1st printing - Summer 1991 ?

            Dave,

Now that you mentioned when M 22 production came into play, in hindsight I agree with you because the 66 which I thought had an M 22 had an
            M 21. However, the 65 definitely had an M 22. - Ron

Any 1965 M-22's had to have used a 1966+ gearset. There never was an M-22 countergear available for the 7/8" countergear shaft used for all 1963-65 Muncie variants.

Joe, I am showing a '65 L78 equipped tanker, VIN 189XX that shows it was equipped with an M22, is that possible?

                  Michael,
There is a bit of "history" on the 65's, and I have one in front of me --- with a Corvette VIN, send or post some pics of the transmission, I'll help you identify it, it is possible in a certain period of time.

On the 66's - there is discussion they were very early September 1965 production...

Re: 1966 Corvettes with M22 transmission

Hi Ron...Thanks for the reply. There is no doubt that the 66 transmission is a M22.
The vin is for a 1966 built in April 1966 and is as clear as a can be and it is not a restamp.
So you have an early 1966 built in September 1965 that is a M22...how early in September?

Reggie, the 1965 M-22's were a mid to late 1965 production, only 30 went into Corvettes.
Referencing 1966 M-22 with the 5010 main case, would love to see the details...

Yes, it's possible. I was only saying that any such 1965 M-22's would have to have used a 1966 M-22 gearset. They could have used the 64-65 main case with the cluster gear shaft enlarged from 7/8" to 1" or they could have used the 1966+ main case. I don't know which.

Is there any GM supporting documentation to support this info on the 65 l78 tanker?
