Heres a look at the area of contact with the cross member and the height issue. If it would help I could remove the radiator and give you a look from the front.

Re: Radiator Shroud # 3956109 Misalignment
Bob,
It's hard to see from the photo, but the position of the shroud in my '70 looks similar to yours. The bottom of the shroud dips a bit below the top of the crossmember. And there's a small gap (maybe 1/4") between the crossmember and shroud similar to what I see in your photo.
What's preventing the shroud extension from fitting? The notch in the extension fits around the hump on the crossmember.Mark Edmondson

Re: Radiator Shroud # 3956109 Misalignment
There is a lot of adjustment in that area. Are there any shims between the radiator support and the bumper cross member? If the radiator support can't be raised any more you can usually raise the shroud a bit with a little persuasion. Be mindful, however, of the gap between the top of the shroud and the radiator, where the seal goes.- Top

So it looks like you got it?
I didn't need to shim the core support. But the shroud is under some tension. In my current car, the top bracket was pulled forward to align the shroud with the fan while its bolts were tightened.Mark Edmondson
