Re: nostalgia
My buddy and I were at the Monterey auction (Rick Cole?) perusing the cars in the staging lane when we found #003 and Ed. We chatted for a while and he told us that the car didn’t run so we offered to help push it into the auction. It was probably a good thing that the car didn’t run because Ed was in no condition to drive any vehicle anywhere. He shared some details about the car and the long journey that eventually wound up having the car for sale at the auction. During the long push, Dan Gale was offering a somewhat loud narrative about all the things that were perceived ‘negatives’ about the car. That didn’t seem to stop Dan from doing some bidding on it before it was sold to Howard, John and Les. All in all, it was a very entertaining episode in the life of Ed and #003- Top

Re: nostalgia - Ed Thiebaud
OK Dan
I'm going back the the stack of mags to look for that Sept ad. You and I both knew the best place on earth for great cars for sale back then was R&T. Every exotic car you can dream up was for sale in R&T back then, including Vintage Corvettes.- Top

Re: nostalgia
Hi Arland,
You are correct the car was sold at the 1987 Rick Cole auction in Monterey during the August Monterey car week. I was also there and saw the car being sold. If I recall correctly, it had not been advertised because Ed did not want the publicity because of his divorce. It appeared to be a tired old 1953 corvette and I believe the final bid was around $37K.- Top

Re: nostalgia - Ed Thiebaud
I visited Ed in 72 after buying my first 56 in Hawaii. I needed some parts and was a member of the VCCA so flew over to LA, rented a car a drove up to Fresno. I got the grand tour and was trated like an old friend. He had a reat collection with the best of the cars in his pressurrized showroom inside the barn which was an old aircraft hangar.

Re: nostalgia - Ed Thiebaud
I’ve run across some more correspondence I had with Ed back in 1968. Turns out he and his wife spent some time here in the Falls Church Va. area. Pretty cool going back in time reading this stuff. Curious, whatever happened to Ed?DAN- Top

Re: nostalgia - Ed Thiebaud
Ed leased a 1984 Corvette from me General Auto Leasing heard story about '53 and thought he was kidding, I had a 54 at that time
I heard Howard Richardson was the sales managers at Clippinger, probably 70's, Chev gave him the Chevrolet point in Newport Beach,CA,
Howard Chevrolet lots of Vettes in the mid 70's Howard sold the dealership property to Slemonds MBZ, they made the Chev dealership in to a parking lot for Mercedes Newport Beach
