    Re: Pilkington Classic Glass

Sorry to hear that. When I got my 66 Coupe back from the body shop about 9 months ago, I called around, looking for a US made windshield. I knew that some of the US production facilities were actually owned by overseas conglomerates but still liked the idea of buying something actually made here.
I was able to find a shop that could order a Pilkington, which used to be a British outfit that was bought out in by a Japanese Firm, NSG, Nippon Sheet Glass back in 2006. The new Pilkington Windshield arrived June of last year and it's made in...Mexico. Go figure.

I called them today, they are just not selling retail to the public anymore, they are still making the glass. They referred me to a retailer that sells them.

Ed, The Operations/Sales manger at Pilkington Classic is a friend. I talked to him yesterday and got the name of a distributor here on the west coast. I can send it to you if you're interested.

The number they gave me is 480.748.2000 which is Fesler Restoration in Scottsdale. Not sure if that's the same place they gave Jim or not. I don't need a windshield quite yet so I was going to let the dust settle down a bit before I order one.

Hi Stewart, That's the number Mike gave me. Are you done with your 65 yet? With this isolation stuff, you should be making some good progress.

                  Re: Pilkington Classic Glass

speaking of glass. i am starting a restoration on my 64 coupe. the car does not have a/c. i thought about adding a/c but was going to do it with all gm parts. i have now decided not to add a/c as the car was parked for 25 plus years and only has 37k on it. the glass in the car is clear. i know they offered tinted glass. my question what was the color of the tint? did they offer a gray tint? i see gray tint on e bay and as my coupe does not have a/c i figured gray would block out the sun better. it would also go better with the red exterior.

                      Hi Ed,

Do you know if Fesler Restoration is the only distributor? Is there an East coast distributor?

I tried ordering two windshields this morning from Pilkington and was told the "Classic" division was recently closed and the 'Safety Plate' logo and date coding was no longer available.

                      Thanks
                      Daniel

If you are planning on having your car judged expect a 10 point deduction for the tint band. The tint band on your new windshield will not pass mustard.

Thanks Gary, I could care less bout 10 points or judging. My goal was to restore the car as close to original as possible but the car is going to be driven and enjoyed as it was meant to be.
