    C2 Dial back timing light

I am looking for a dial back timing light to use on my 63 340 HP car. My past experience has been with standard light and timing tape. But I see advantage in the newer approach. Problem is when I go out to look on line I am not sure if the timing lights I see are a dial back or just a standard light with some features. A check at local auto stores brings blank stares. Any help appreciated.

An Actron CP7529 is what I've used for years, pretty much bulletproof if you keep the wires off hot manifolds, etc.. Available reasonably nearly anywhere. Less than $50 on Amazon

Unless you let the leads make contact with hot headers

I use an Innova Professional digital timing light. In addition to digital dial back, it gives you RPM, dwell, and voltage on the readout.

I use that one as well. It works great with conventional ignition systems but not with multi-spark systems. For those, I break out my 45 year old Sears/Penske light.

Thanks Frank for the information. Looks like a good choice. Since my wife has Amazon prime the shipment is free.

Thanks Mike number of choices. Not sure of one over the other. I will probably just flip of coin.

Ed many thanks for all the detail on your timing light. To bad I am unable to see the number of choices presented in operation. But I will pick one.

I haven't received it yet, but I also chose the Innova 5568. It's a digital tool that's a generation beyond a dial back light...Instead of turning a knob, it displays RPM vs. advance real time with an LCD display. It's the only light I found that also measures both dwell and volts.

                    A little over $100.

If I needed to replace my Actron (which I don't) then this is the one I would go for I think...

Another vote for the Innova. Does everything as advertised. Very easy to use.

I did see your comment and had not thought about a newer design. I plan to order something early next week so you gave me something else to consider before I make my choice.

To all that commented on the dial back timing light Innova 5568. I did return the defective light and received new light. The new light works fine.

My Innova 3568 quit working today. The dial back feature quit working and the LCD screen became intermittent, but the timing light continued to flash at 0 degrees. I have had it about four years with a total of about 1 hour of use. I really liked this thing, but I don’t want to reward the company by buying another. Can anyone suggest a more durable alternative?

I have Sears Penske timing lights that are 50 years old and still work. It is annoying to have this thing fail with little use but too long after purchase to complain to Amazon.
