Re: 71 tie rod end
Bob, if there is nothing wrong with them I would leave them alone some of the reproduction and after market parts are made in China, those parts I am sure they are 50 years and have lasted this long.as much as we drive these cars they will last another 50. GM made some good suspension and steering parts in the days these cars were made. Just clean them up and reuse.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: 71 tie rod end
Hello,
I have a couple of tie rod questions.
1- Do the tie rod ends in the photo appear original? They are from my 1971, (71,000 mi) and I don’t know if they have been replaced.
2- I may want to replace them, if so , any vendor recommendations would be appreciated. Paragon’s are about 2x the cost vs. some of the other big vendors. This is for a car that will be judged.
3) can you confirm what numbers/letters originals be marked with please
Thank you
Robert-------
Absolutely no doubt these are original ball joints or OEM replacements (there's no difference between originals and OEM GM replacements).
Pictured are OEM tie rod ends [none for sale]. Place no importance on the forging die numbers. They could vary as there were undoubtedly multiple forging dies.
