- if the unit has been painted as a whole.
If the unit was painted as separate parts, with a natural cross shaft, then the washers and bolt are not painted either.

Yes, my original 1969 a-arms, upper and lower, had unpainted shafts, unpainted retainers (convex washers), and unpainted nuts and lockwashers.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Although I mentioned in a prior thread that uppers are usually black and lowers or natural, I have seen a couple of cars were they were natural up and down and in one particular scenario one original type Corvette had one upper shaft painted black and the other natural. Like my colleagues on this discussion mentioned, if the shaft is black and so are the bushings etc. and if natural everything is natural."SOLID LIFTERS MATTER"- Top
