    Not surprising, at all. The VAST majority of fasteners used in PRODUCTION were never available in SERVICE.

        Gary;

        Another item is the alternator you show in the JM, 1969 alternators do not have a bar below the delco remy on the back and the boss for the bolt that holds the harness bracket is flat against the back and is at the 5:30 position on the rear of the alternator. The one you are showing is a 1970 alternator. The bar was added and the boss was moved to the 3 o'clock position and raised a 1/4 of an inch. I have a 23K mile car built the end of January with the original 882 alternator built Nov of 68 and I have a second built Feb of 69 and both alternator backs are the same. I have added a photo.

          Thank you, thank you.

          Can I ask a favor, can you take another picture, higher resolution, and the top and bottom not cropped? Yah, I know, picky, picky. But I have really tried to get good clear pictures in the TIM&JG. By the time I copy and paste this into the manual, it will be blurry. Either post it here or email to me. gbozz at gmail.com.

          I was in "The Library" today and got pictures of the bolt heads. I plan to add those as well. You are right, 68 through 72 alternator bolt with PS are all grade 8 SBC bolts.

          What fuel pump is on your car?

                    These are the correct configurations for the 1969 and 1970 alternator split ring cases halves. It is possible that very late 1969 alternators used the 1970 case configuration but my mid-September, 1969 built convertible still had the 1969 configuration.

                    The 1969 and 1970 case halves, both drive end and split ring end, are quite rare. That's because the internal regulator, SI series alternator was first released for the 1969 model year and was used only on Corvettes and a very few other GM models for that model year. In fact, the only other models that I've ever confirmed used the SI alternator for 1969 were some Pontiacs with heated rear window.

                    For 1970 the SI spread to other GM models but was still very limited.

                      If I'm not mistaken, text messages embed the image and strip it of its properties while reducing compression size. I've found to maintain the integrity of an original image, it must be emailed as an attachment...no cheating!

                        Another solution is to open a free Dropbox account and use that to upload full size images. A Google gmail account also has a storage feature using Drive; I believe 15GB comes with the free accounts. Then share the image link with whomever you want to download it. This method gets around email limits and text downsizing and maintains full image data.
