Hi Frank.
I have been following this in case I encounter a similar problem when my '63 gets back on the road. This may be a long shot but have you checked the raised pads on the backing plate to see if there is a groove or high spot that is keeping a shoe against the drum?

Yes, actually - before I sent the trailing arms off to Van Steel those were examined thoroughly and even filed a bit, then all 6 were lubricated when I reassembled the brakes; I also considered that weak springs were not retracting the shoes and those have been replaced.

I'm really leaning towards the master cylinder residual valve or a clogged rear crossover brake line at this point. I don't know what else is left.

I can't see how the MC could cause one wheel to hang.

My bet its a hung park brake or more likely a debris clogged hose or cylinder on that side. Fluid put under pressure ok but can't return on it.

So - the plot thickens; with the car on stands I pumped the brakes a bunch and cracked the RR bleeder nipple and no fluid jetted out - the car was cold though, but there was no back pressure under these conditions.

I've sent the wheels/tires off to be balanced and have swapped rear drums side-to-side and they don't seem out of balance or warped. I checked the parking brake operation and its uneven between the wheels. I backed WAY off until the brakes fully set on both side at about 10 clicks (or maybe more), if I pull the handle 4-5 clicks out, the right rear sets firm but I can still pop the drum off the left rear. I lubed up the equalizer horseshoe liberally and same thing - ALL 3 cables are new.

So now I'm wondering since I initially had the brake adjusted to set at 4" of "pull" (maybe 4-5 clicks) that perhaps when things got hot that was enough to make the RR brake drag.

A lot of lube and a little filing in that RR trailing brake shoe at the hole where the pin and "C" clip on the parking brake actuator arm goes through.
Both sides are operating very close now but I still backed way off the adjustment, so we'll see after a test drive.

So I picked up the tire/wheels from Discount Tire where my "guy" showed me that one of my reproduction 63 wheels is bent. He put it on the Hunter "RoadForce" machine and spun it up to about 52mph and sure enough, there was a damned good bit of a wobble. Don't even ask me how it happened because the car has been driven less than 200 miles since I got the wheels between COVID and some health problems.
And I only torque them to 65 ft-lbs when mounting them.

Wife says, with your luck that wheel was on the RR ,the same place with the sticking parking brake so you had a "perfect storm" of problems (which would explain a lot). New repro wheel coming from Eckler's should be here Saturday and I'll finally get an answer to that.

The sticky parking brake cable works fine now with everything lubed and some adjustments to the cabling:

FIXED !! Between replacing the bent rim and getting the new RH parking brake cable to "equalize" the car runs smooth as glass up to turnpike speeds.
