Re: 65 heater control lighting
Ok, I found the attached AIM showing the green cover on the bulb cover, but frankly the green cover I received just barely fits on the bulb, not over the cover.... Anyone got experience here?

Re: 65 heater control lighting
Mike,
I just checked my ‘66, since the radio and inner heater box are still out it’s very easy for me to see behind the clock, and I clearly see the green cover (item 7 in the AIM) covers the end of the metal torpedo (item 4 in the AIM). Just like it’s shown in your AIM photo. The green cover is not on the end of the glass bulb (item 5 in the AIM).
Maybe heating the green cover a bit with a hair dryer will allow it to be pulled over the metal torpedo?

Re: 65 heater control lighting
I recently spent too much time on this in preparation for my recent PV. I ended up giving up on the reproduction shield and salvaging what I could of the original. It probably covered half the bulb but it gave off a hint of green which was good enough. I added a separate ground wire to the clip on socket as I couldn't get a dependable ground and used the original bezels around the control knobs as they let more light through than the reproductions. I also brought one of the big HF blankets so I knew I had a good black out cover for the inspection. All went well during the PV.- Top

Re: 65 heater control lighting
Gary, the pic below is the bulb I ordered. It seems to have 4 LEDs facing perpendicular to the bulb axis, as well as one that will be pretty useless, facing into the tip of the cover. The perpendicular ones might be OK, if they face the holes in the cover.
