Re: Fuel Injection: Restorer Article, Fuel Percolation Cure
Okay, I misinterpreted what you wanted.
I did mic one, and it did not seem to be exactly round. Measured .243/.245 I think. I can confirm and measure several of them tomorrow morning.
If it needs to sealed you could probably dab a bit of RTV on it. I don't think you are going to find anything different. These things are what they are. The PVC ones may be more precise.

Re: Fuel Injection: Restorer Article, Fuel Percolation Cure
Hi Leo,
I can give you as many as you want - I got 100. Let me know how many you want. I will get them out today.
My PM box is pretty full. E-mail me:
dandill@aol.com
I will sell them at basically my cost; $.34 each + shipping (USPS). Shipping I would think under $1, unless it has to be a small box.

I'm a day late, but I mic'ed several of them this morning, and some steel ones too.
One of the steel ones I mic'ed was zinc plated, the others were all raw steel.
The steel ones measured between .245/.248. The nylon ones came in at .240/.247.
So so in general, the nylon ones are slightly smaller. They also vary down the length of the shank.
Also, keep in mind that nylon is not very stable, especially with moisture.

Bottom line, it cost me $4.65 to ship them. Inflation is for real.
For the next set I am going to go to a different post office. See if that makes a difference.

Re: Fuel Injection: Restorer Article, Fuel Percolation Cure
One KEY issue this email trail MISSES COMPLETELY is:
NO C1 SUBMITTED TO NCRS JUDGING WITH THESE FI ENHANCEMENTS COULD ACHEIVE 'TOP FLIGHT'!!!!!!!!!!!
I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge with the fans of Rochester fuel injection; BUT...ALL of our memberships in NCRS have become meaningless for those of us that enhance our C1s for DRIVEABILITY in HOT WEATHER! (this article is wasted IF any owner hopes to achieve Top Flight!)
The NCRS site is a great resource for restoration and trouble shooting
- BUT JUDGING is a dismal FAILURE for those of us that DRIVE our Vettes
- NCRS is SO...focused on restoring cars to Original / OLD Technologies that VERY FEW articles like this ever reach publication
Considering modern degraded gasolines and available NEW Technologies & 'work arounds' (like this article) that will improve Drivability; NCRS has failed those of us that enhance of Vettes and DRIVE our Vettes!
At some point, NCRS MUST consider HOW to fairly JUDGE all Vettes submitted for JUDGING that have been enhanced for Drivability.

No, NCRS Flight Judging stays true to "Cars are to be judged to the standard of vehicle appearance, and as equipped at the time and point of final assembly by the Chevrolet . . . " Modified cars are very welcome in the Concours class. Don H.- Top

Re: Fuel Injection: Restorer Article, Fuel Percolation Cure
Skip...I haven't gone over the judging sheets to figure the individual deductions for the modifications in the article, but keep in mind that NCRS does offer driving points and encourages an owner to drive his car to the meets.
From the Judging Reference Manual
Since NCRS encourages driving, any car entered in Flight Judging driven by the owner or a family member to an event is eligible to receive additional points based on miles driven to the event so long as the car receives a minimum 75.0 net score. Mileage points are limited to 10% of net scoring.
Points are calculated using the actual mileage driven to the event as reported on the Judging Summary sheet by the owner. This mileage is multiplied by 1% (.01}. Using this number and not rounding up figures beyond the tenths place are dropped and the result is added to the net score to arrive at the final Grand Total Score, Grand Total cannot exceed 100. For example, a car driven 37 miles to an event would have .3 added; while a car driven 375 miles would have 3.7 points added.
Once again, without doing the itemized deductions for the modifications, it just might be possible to attain a Top Flight in your C1.

Re: Fuel Injection: Restorer Article, Fuel Percolation Cure
I appreciate feedback from both Don H and Vinnie P.
And I have to be careful about my further comments / complaints (don't want to get BANNER by the NCRS Political Correctness Czar!)
BUT, Flight Judging Mechanical section is 700 points of 4510 points (about 16% of Total)
- therefore NO WAY to recover to Top Flight Score ; if using a MODERN High Flow Waterpump or Alum Radiator (vs Copper from St Louis 0 these cars OVERHEATED as new - always needed Cooling Enhancements)
- the Air Cleaner AIR COOLING Enhancements described in this post would also deduct 60 points
- Fuel System would receive MAJOR deduct on the 120 points (due to several enhancements like the POLY Fuel Block Screws)
I appreciate many functions of NCRS (member since the 1980s), HOWEVER we are migrating to a TRAILER QUEEN event for Flight Judging
- as EPA Fuel Requirements continue to migrate away from the Fuels these cars were designed for ; NO ONE WILL BE ABLE TO DRIVE A TOP FLIGHT CAR on a Hot Day (just take it out of the Trailer and park it in a Museum)- Top
