Re: Wiper Weirdness
Jack,
There was an article published in The Restorer Volume 35, Number 2 by Mike Poirier. Following those guidelines you should be able to diagnose your wiper switch. Just remember the switch supplies grounds to the wiper motor and has to be grounded in the instrument cluster before it will function correctly. The ground for the motor is supplied via a ground wire directly to the motor.

Re: Wiper Weirdness
If the motor is original and has never been serviced, you might want to pop the cover off and clean out all of the old grease and re-grease it. On mine , after turning the wiper switch on, it would take some time to begin wiping. Found all of the grease was really hard so I cleaned it all out (on the car) re-greased and its been working like a champ ever since....Frank

Re: Wiper Weirdness
You know Jack, it sure sounds like you have some old grease inside the motor. Did you take the cover off the motor at the firewall and clean out all of the old grease and re-grease the mechanism????Frank

Re: Wiper Weirdness
This may not be the same as you are experiencing, but on my 65 the wiper switch is the culprit for sporadic operation and stopping of the wipers. the twist knob seems to be 'loose' inside the switch and one has to move it back and forth until the wipers work and then the same to get them to park. I have a new switch and just have to get the car back from transmission rebuilder to install it and see what happens.- Top
