    Re: 67 tank sticker question

The key data is the 5 digit "Order Number" to validate the sticker using GM records, as NCRS offers to do. That is the only data that can validate the sticker to the VIN.

      James,

Can you post a full image of the tank sticker (no matter how chewed up it may be) ?

      Is it a radio-delete car ?
I'm wondering why there doesn't appear to be an ECL string to the left of "Radio"
      thx,

        Re: 67 tank stricker question

James- I thank you for your very kind wordz, but my opinion is no more valuable than anyone else... including many educated Corvette members, that simply might be new to NCRS.

As I mentioned earlier in my posts, I'm taking a calculated guess... solely based on very limited data. I've spent several hours pulling out as much data as I could... regrettably, I just don't have what you are looking for. Reviewing more than a couple hundred 1967 tank stickers (each one reviewed multiple times), only about 10% had info written in that lower section. Of that group, only half had SEQ notations. Unfortunately, I did NOT even have an SEQ example from each monthly 'letter'... I had to extrapolate (guess) at some months. I had examples from October (C), December (E), January (F), February (G), May - which had the TYPO (K), June (L), July (M)... and you had the only example from April (J).

Perhaps there are other members than can assist... I hope I'm not the only person that saves photos.

What I find interesting is that tank build sheets seem to have a lot of variation. For example, this one lists the "sport coupe" as an option item whereas mine and others don't. It also lists "vacuum power brake" twice with the standard J50 plus Y47 RPO codes. Also a Y-code radio rather than a U-code. The Y-codes from what I've been able to sleuth out seem to indicate a sales package of some sort but I've never seen any itemized package options. For example, Y99 (used for the (sport coupe" line) may be a handling package (according to later RPO code listings) but there's nothing else on the build sheet that indicates any handling oriented items.

            Hi Owen,

I think the "Y" codes have been discussed in Restorer Articles...I believe they may have been DowSmith codes that were used either for billing purposes back to GM - or, for production tracking....whatever...

Suffice it to say, you will see these "Y" codes on many DowSmith bodied Tank Stickers
            thx,

You will see them on ALL the DOW-SMITH built body Corvettes from 64-67.

Thanks guys. Never connected that and was out of NCRS for a long while so likely missed the Restorer articles on it.

Why would a Dow Smith body have a different build sheet concerning options than a St. Louis body? It's not like they need different parts or that the parts are installed by Dow... inquiring mind and all... Wasn't the build sheet and options set forth at St. Louis and Dow wouldn't have cared a wit about what options were installed on the body?

It was for billing and $$$ reimbursement purposes. This according to John Hinkley (JohnZ). RIP.

Some options were installed at DowSmith (ie: paint/convertible top/hardtop/tinted glass/some interior parts/setup for other options/etc).
Itz not uncommon to see options REPEATED on the lower portion of DowSmith (AOS) tank stickers.

                        Good Morning Jack

Your hypothesis on the SEQ posting on the tank orders prompted the interest that they are there for a reason.
I spent hours looking through Google- Bing- Duck-Go and found images of 4 more orders with the SEQ. The 5 I now have support your theory about the sequence to the entry dates. May I ask, if you have any more, please forward images to me to help my effort.
                        Thank you again James (61744)

James you got that sticker in the nick of time. My 67 Dow Smith Expected date of build 04-17- 67 is only missing a small part ot the sticker and it is the Com & Con lettering and the code for my AM FM radio. i removed this sticker around 1990 or so.

I am analyzing the "Tank Sticker" question and would appreciate copies of as many of the 1967 tank stickers I can find. When I get a few more, I have 10 tank stickers, 5 with the SEQ note and 5 without. If you have a 1967 tank sticker, with or without the SEQ noteI would appreciate a copy. My study to date shows the SEQ added by Chevrolet St. Louis with no apparent order and no relation to the other numbers
