2023 Tucson Regional

The NCRS Southern Arizona and Northern California Chapters invite NCRS members and their guests to attend the Tucson Regional to be held March 23-25, 2023 at the Casino Del Sol Resort, located at 5655 W Valencia Road, Tucson, Arizona 85757. This will be the only Regional in the West in 2023, so if you live in NCRS Regions VIII or IX and need a prerequisite for the 2023 NCRS Convention in French Lick, please join us in Tucson.

Online registration will be available beginning December 1, 2022, and a mail-in registration form will be included in the January/February Driveline magazine. The registration form and schedule of events is also being distributed to all of the NCRS Chapters for inclusion in their newsletters

A block of 70 rooms will be available until February 20, 2023. Reservations may be made online at https://www.casinodelsol.com/ or by calling 1-855-765-7829. Use Group Name: National Corvette Restorers Society. Room rates are $169, plus tax.

Judging will occur outside on the parking lot adjacent to the resort. In the event of inclement weather, cars will be judged in the adjacent parking deck.

Thank you Tim, with the 3-month gap between Florida and Altoona next year it was an opportunity to put something in place in the West. The trick now is to get the word out so folks out this way know there is something a little closer to home for a prerequisite if they are headed to French Lick.

Plenty of places to eat and gamble. It was a good time and a great place to have it.

As Dave said, judging at the Tucson Regional will be outdoors, although Tom Barr says if we have rain the Casino will allocate some space in their parking deck to us. The current schedule of events approved by Dave Brigham calls for Operations judging on Thursday, March 23rd, starting at 1:00 PM. Cars must be in place by 4:00 PM so plan accordingly.

Regarding the hotel block, another member tried to book a room this morning and was told the block was not set up yet. I have asked Tom Barr to get that squared away. I will post an update when he confirms the block is available.

Online registration will be available beginning December 1. The registration form and schedule of events will be included in the next couple of Drivelines, and they have been distributed to all of the Chapters in Region IX, and all of the other Directors for distribution to their Chapters.

Online registration for the Tucson Regional opened on December 1st. I will post an update each week to let folks know where this stand. As of today, we have 15 registrations for the event and six cars registered: one for flight judging, four for PVs, and one Sportsman. If you live anywhere in the West the Tucson Regional will be your best opportunity to earn any prerequisite needed for a Mark of Excellence Award at the 2023 Convention in French Lick. As time goes on I will provide detail on the model years of the cars registered for judging. We hope to see you in Tucson.

And for 2024 Hampton Roads Virginia too. As of date, this Tucson Regional is the only Regional West of the Continental Divide for the next two years.

I realize that only a third of the membership lives west of the Rockies, but we are disadvantaged by the dearth of events within a day's travel.

I will most likely enter the car I was unable to finish prepping for Frisco. But now I'm looking at at least one 3,000 mile RT (Frisco 2023) for the second prerequisite for Hampton Roads. If I need a second attempt, another 3,500 miles (Iowa). Plus Hampton Roads is 6,000 miles RT. These distances make it rather pricey for a Westerner to campaign a car through The System.

I haven't entered Tucson yet because I'm still contemplating whether I really need to do another campaign. If I lived in the NE, distances are much shorter, it doesn't cost nearly as much in time and travel expense, its not as big an expense.

The Board needs to contemplate a repeating location for the Nationals in the middle of the country, and several repeating location Regionals. And get them down to 2 day events, with the awards presented at the conclusion of judging on the second day, no "banquet". We've got to get the cost in both time and expense down, or participation is going to continue to dwindle.

Move back here to Mid Atlantic / Carolinas area.. The positive changes to your life would be myriad..

Dave,
The 2025 National Convention is in Las Vegas; much closer to you than VA 2024.
Duntov/McLellan/Hill allows three calendar years, plus the year of the convention, to achieve required judging.
While I realize this doesn't help the lack of regional meets in the west, you would have more than enough time allotment to complete your judging campaign without dragging a car to VA in 2024.
