    Re: 2023 Tucson Regional

    Dave,

You are correct about the dearth of Western Regional meets but that is just the most visible symptom of the underlying cause - a dearth of Western chapters able / willing to bid, staff, and finance a regional meet at a suitable venue. The reasons are many but instead of hijacking this thread, kudos to the Southern Arizona and Northern California Chapters for joining forces to make the Tucson Regional happen.

Mike, thanks to you and Tom Barr for stepping forward. I realize we on the left coast are looked upon as cowboys from the wild west, Yepe koi kia, that's local for, Let the Goodtimes Roll.

        Re: 2023 Tucson Regional

This my third weekly update on registrations for the Tucson Regional. As of today, we have 32 registrations for the event and twelve cars registered: five for flight judging (`57, `66, `67, `68, `78), one for bowtie sign-off (`78), six for PVs (`65, 2-`67s, `71, `96, `04), and one Sportsman. About half of the NCRS room block at Casino Del Sol has been reserved. If you live anywhere in the West the Tucson Regional will be your best opportunity to earn any prerequisite needed for a Mark of Excellence Award at the 2023 Convention in French Lick.

Update number five. As of today, we have 50 registrations for the event and seventeen cars registered: ten for flight judging (`57, `64, `65, `66, two `67s, `68, two `78s, `92), two for bowtie sign-offs (`78), six for PVs (`65, 2-`67s, `71, `96, `04), and one Sportsman. Thanks for the update. Why do I get the feeling there will be a merging of the classes in the future? The 66s and 67s together seemed to work in Oregon last August.

Why do that? Some folks are looking for judging jobs at regionals. Keeping separate teams would offer more jobs.

                  Re: 2023 Tucson Regional

For those who are unaware of the huge judging shortage that occurred at the Oregon regional, there were judges with 0 judging points with jobs. We scrambled to get judging teams. We judged 5 1966s and 1 1967 on Friday, 3 1967s on Saturday with temps in the 90s both days. We drank a lot of water those 2 days!!!!!!
The larger problem is with lower car counts, a chapter can't afford to have 10 judges judge 1 car and be finished for the day.

I think Lakeland will have too few cars and too many judges.

The BG vs Altoona weekend should prove interesting.
I don't envy the Chapters putting on the Altoona meet this year.

The same thing happened to the Heartland Chapter when we hosted our first Regional in 2002. It was different in that Bloomington judging was on Sunday then and we were close enough that some left Saturday and made it there for Sunday judging.

                          That's a good point, Mike.
Less than a year ago, there was a great deal of discussion about "conflict of interest" for NCRS personnel vs BG.
Geographical and specific car campaign considerations aside, it will be interesting to see which event is chosen
by all the NCRS people who were worried back then.
As for me, I'll be in Altoona.

True, for folks with no skin in the game.

However, you have a business - you follow the money.

Unfortunately, for some, this date puts business success (food on the table) at odds with an NCRS event.

No one should be castigated for putting loyalty to family first.
