Not a big deal here since there are plenty of other reference materials. I just like keeping a record of the work done especially if it has never been tinkered with before. Always had an easy time taking things apart. Different story when it comes to putting things back together. Also, in your case, not a big deal since it sounds like someone was already been in there. No guarantee it was put back correctly. Pull out the AIM.
Regarding your question about the wiper motor assembly, it would be easier to work on the wiper assembly now since you have the backside out. You're going to need to get in there again to remove the wiper motor assembly.
