    65 big block distributors had an oiling groove that was not continuous around the diameter, but I think it was the was same as small blocks in 66 and certainly in 67 when the rear cam bearing was changed and the cam groove discontinued. At any rate this did not affect the electric operation. If you are replacing a big block distributor with a small block unit with a different groove pay attention to the oil pressure, but there will probably not be a change,

            Ed, yes that is on my list of things to check. I have a good spare coil in hand just in case.

              And a condenser. Try a new one with the working coil.

                GM says that the distributor housing with the "full round" oil groove can be used for all 1962-74 Corvette applications.
