Worthless roadside assistance service via NCM (American Modern) insurance

I needed to flat-bed trailer our 66 coupe to a repair facility that had recently completed some rear end alignment work. The car had to go back to the original shop who did this work. Two problems arose in trying to arrange such service.

The end result? I paid out of pocket $505 for the 70-mile flat-bed trip for our car.
While other parts of the insurance policy may be valuable, the road-side assistance has no value and needs to be addressed and improved.

    Mark, sorry to hear that.

I have AAA in addition to my insurance. I've needed to move my C2 to the Corvette shop, 60 miles away, and AAA had no problem at no cost to me, just a tip for the driver. I recall I get one 200 tow per year, plus all the local towing.

Here in NM, my AAA Premier/RV allows 1 tow of 200 miles per year, and up to 100 miles each for the 3 other allowable free tows per year. They will also tow my car trailer under that policy.

I had great responce with the towing company that NCM recommended. I had my 67 on a rollback for 70 miles to my home at no cost to me.

Adam Boca is in Europe for a couple of weeks.
I would give the NCM office a call and talk to him directly. He needs the feedback, and I would not be surprised if he makes it right.

These towing policies are ALL a hit or miss. Have had two past problems with AAA, never showed (winter night around mid night) & mid day on Sunday they never answered the phone. JC Taylor, mid day never showed.

Solution, which has not been tried yet (hope I never need) is to get policy which will pay you back for any company you get.

Unfortunately a couple of weeks ago, I had to have my 64 towed back home. The driver did an excellent job loading and unloading. That being said, I waited 5 1/2 hours for the flat bed to arrive. Evidently the towing company contracted by NCM (American Modern Insurance) was VERY busy? Jack J.

I second Patrick H's advise. Talk directly to Adam when he returnes.

My local U-Haul office rents a trailer for ~$40. It worked great when I moved.

I used AAA twice in the last 3 years for mid year breakdowns great service and I tip before the car goes on the bed.

Towing your car from your home to a specialty shop in another town for planned work is usually not covered by insurance or auto clubs. "Roadside service" is intended for emergencies.

I agree with Mark. Your particular case is unique and most "boiler plate" roadside assistance programs would not cover the car getting towed back to a specialty shop that did the work originally. In my own opinion, the towing is an issue to be taken up with the shop that completed with work. As mentioned by others, it would only be fair to contact Adam in order to make him aware of the circumstance.

I can not say enough good things about Hagerty towing that tows 200 miles unlimited times a year and any car you own.
                            It's a good life!

I had a similar thing happen, all I did was sent NCM the bill and they sent me a check for the full amount. I would have contacted them as soon as you got home. You can't expect NCM to have control over every towing company. Always ask the towing company about there policy of where they will tow before you send them out.
