Re: 1968 L89 recent purchase. I have a couple of questions
My 1971 is very original. Even has original fan belts, mufflers with blackout, and hoses. It’s a rough car on the outside , but extremely original and has been great as a reference for my other cars.
My L71 is almost done, and it’s also being put back to original. The prior owner threw away the F41 components, used a lot a hardware store stuff that I have changed over to original with the help of David Sokoloski.
My 69 L89 is a complete project. It supposedly was a Motion conversion but I have no paperwork, only verbal from family members and previous owners.
I have sourced almost every single item to put this car back to original, including quarters and front fenders.
The car was heavily raced and is missing its entire drivetrain. But it is a documented L89 with Sidepipes and heavily optioned.
However, in the interest of time, I’m thinking of keeping the flares and going back to the Motion theme that was on the car. Every rare Motion item came with the car and it would certainly expedite the process of putting it back together.
This new car is going back to original, but the goal is to be able to drive it asap.
Funny thing is, other than driving my 71 half a block before the rear end bound up, I’ve never even driven a Corvette!
3 of my best friends in HS had Corvettes while I had a beat up Volkswagen they called “Baby Huey”.
Im still great friends with these guys, in fact, one of them drove cross country to pick up my L71 with me.
They think I’m nuts as does my wife and kids. My kids keep wanting to know why I keep “buying cars that don’t drive”
picked these up the other day!
