    C2 Tachometer Cable

I had to replace the original tach cable assembly on my 66 SB because the outer cable case started to separate at the cable to flange joint, due to the tight bend where the cable flange goes into the distributor. (This is a typical problem with C2 tach cables). The tach needle was fluttering and I suspected a cable problem. Sure enough, when I removed the inner cable from the casing I could feel resistance near the bend location and suspect that there is a kink inside the casing. I tested the tach by connecting a new repro cable assembly to the tach and turned the distributor end with a drill. No flutter occurred, confirming the problem was with the original cable.

Hope to see you in Michigan.

    Regards,

It is a judged car. I'm familiar with the right angle adapters.

I am following this with interest as I will probably have to change mine out some day soon. Mine is still the original on a 63, and years back I tried to lube it with one of the adapters w/a zerk fitting. The grease just oozed out through the cable shath as if it were split near the distributor. Thing still keeps working ok w/minimal needle bounce, but the day will come I am sure.

Perhaps impossible now, but if you can find an old-fashond speedometer shop near you, or a truck garage, many had the equipment to build a speedo case to a custom length. Might be worth a look, then you could get back to the original dimensions, or a little more if required.
