    Re: E-bay snipers

Here is how your judging chairman's theory is questionable. I for one bought a ton off NOS Corvette parts in the late 70's and early 80's. I had planned on using them in the restoration of my 63. Well about two years ago or so we went all out on that 63 FI car. Anyhow what I came to realize is that a high percentage of the old NOS parts I so dearly charished were nothing but a POC. Just service replacement parts. Some of the reproduction parts are far more accurate than the service replacement GM parts. And some of the repro parts are just that.
That's why we need to attend the NCRS judging schools at the big meets. To be educated on the ABC's of judging.
Or ask questions right here. "The more I learn the less I know about 63's."

New original parts and replacement parts are a world apart . Every ones problem is knowing what a real original part LOOKS like (the design) of the part. Some parts are pictured in some years JM but many ant. The JM is great at numbers.
Some people do post a pic asking is this correct or can some one post a pic/ but most buy a part then ask. That's when we hear complains about dealers or sellers.
I have many 55 owners that send pic's or ask for a pic (they save money-time and learn what to buy) Oh! Well that's what keeps some dealers in business .

Is there a recommended X-reference book or web-site...out there that gives truck and passenger car numbers that are same as vettes?

Thanks Paul....I'm going to look for one of those. But in the mean time, you maybe getting some requests for X-reference....

In all seriousness....do you find it valuable? Does it x-reference to other chevy parts? or is it just Corvette's?

You know one of the problems we have as judges with REPRO- parts is that the repro's don't look like the original parts! We have to determine what the differences are. You can't just write "Rero" on the judging sheet and take a deduction. They are the wrong finish or the wrong configuration etc. If they looked the same, there would be NO "originality" deductions, just condition.
There is also so called NOS parts that were over the counter parts that are different than the "original part that came on the car. Like the exhaust tips for 70-72's. There are four different styles, one original chromed steel, two steel ones with different welds and large stamped part no's ,sold as nos over-the-counter GM parts, and one stainless steel repro that is nothing like the original.
If they would make all repro's correctly, and there are a few, we wouldn't have anything to judge but the "condition" side of the sheet.

              Roy,

Forgive me to being a bit philosophical, but the ongoing search for the elusive parts has kept my interest and excitement in the hobby over the years.

I also been looking for 30 years for those elusive parts , it keeps me interested and learning about 55 Corvettes ( my love ) . 55 owners are a vary prestige's group of less then 100. Just in the last month I finally found a original ballaster and beige trunk mat .The two last items I needed . Also finding NOS or real original parts to keep on hand has always been fun to locate and buy // Oh ! Yes also 55 GM accessories.
May be less then 3% of my 55 has any repro part on it now. It feels good to know I have a (real original) 55 as close to factory as it can get .
