    2009 Zr-1

I was at the Corvette Musuem and Corvette assembly plant last week at Bowling Green KY. I worked the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion there. They had built 15 of the new 650 HP Corvettes the week before for the brass to drive. 2 of them were still at the plant, one black and one with a clear plastic window in the hood to show the blower. The tour guide said that one was waiting for a part and the clear plastic hooded one was waiting for delivery indoors.( no cell phones or cameras allowed) . The tour guide said that the new corvette did not have a gas guzzler tax on it. 30 MPG. Dale

Also they said that 40% of 2008 production was Z06's. I heard that Z06 were in the 70's and the new ZR1 would be around a hundred. I over heard a dealer on the tour talking. D/

The MSRP on the ZR1 is 103K and there IS a gas guzzler tax on it. The number is $1300 or 1700, I forget which. All the prices for 2009 are announced and on other web sites which cater to the new cars.

I think 40% of 2008 production is high for the Z06 as well, but I don't think the official numbers have been announced yet.

Terry, I dont know I the tour guide was lying to us or what. I only know what we were told on the tour. I called my friend that was with me and he confirmed what we were told. Dale

Dale -- I am not suggesting you didn't hear what you heard.
          Remember: "Trust, but verify."
That said one cannot always believe what one reads on the Internet -- or hears at Bowling Green. And I should add that one can not trust what original owners tell you about their Corvettes either.

Interesting. I guess that means that "Hot Wheels"-style window in the hood is an RPO? Thank goodness for that...might have kept me from buying one.

That hood show window doesn't add anything to that very nicely engineered blower setup IMO..."Rad" cool IS as "Rad" cool DOES.

The plant manager should require all tour guides to read GM press releases, especially those having to do with Corvette.

The engine IS, as is the engine for the Z06. The LS3 is built by our friends in Canada.

The clear hood window is standard on all of them, not an RPO.

More precisely the hood window is part of the ZR-1 model configuration - but not available on other models.

the ZR-1 engine is built at the same shop in michigan as the ZO-6 engines. no mass production like the LS-3 as each engine is built by one engine builder from start to finish. i was there at this shop about a month ago to watch the engines being built

Well, that's what I thought before Dale's post.

He said there were two ZR1s at the plant...a black one, and one with a clear window in the hood. Assuming he's describing two different cars, the implication is that one of the two ZR1s had a "black" hood sans window. The color for the second ZR1 with the window was not specified.

It really doesn't matter to me...my Corvette stable is currently filled with more capability than my skills, and I think all the ZR1s are spoken for anyway.

The window on the hood reminds me of the 1956 Ford Crown Vic with the window on the hood. I didn't like it on the car then and I don't like it now! The chore this is going to be keeping this clean!
