    1963 Turn Signals - Check These Pictures Out Please

    Guys;

    Thanks again to all of you for your help with my turn signal canceling issue. I think I may be onto something but need your input because I can't find a good photo of this in the Service manual....

    I'm enclosing two photos of my steering column with the horn button and contact removed. can you tell me which (if either) shows the correct orientation of the horn contact... for "straight ahead" steering???

    I just pulled the steering wheel off and looked behind to see just how that cancel cam sits in relation to the cancel pawls... With the horn button at the 5 o'clock position I cannot see symmetry. With the second picture it would appear that the cancel cam was positioned symetrically between the cancel pawls...

    Bubba has gotten me a few times on this car and I am just wondering if this wheel orientation is just one more example....

    Thanks,

    Joel

    Joel -

    Your steering wheel is mis-indexed to the hub, and the hub is mis-indexed to the shaft. The chisel mark on the end of the steering shaft should be at 12 o'clock with the wheels straight ahead, and the other chisel mark on the steering wheel hub should also be at 12 o'clock, aligned with the mark on the steering shaft. Then you install the steering wheel to the hub in its level/straight-ahead position, and have the toe-in set so the steering wheel is centered. In its current state, it will not properly cancel the turn signal switch.

      John;

      You know, I am not surprised. Little by little I am discovering (and fixing) the myriad of screw ups which "Bubba" inflicted on this car way back when. We are almost there thankfully.. I will re-index the steering column and get that steering wheel straightened out...

      Thanks you very much for you help... and thanks again to all you guys who pitched in with your information and suggestions...

      Joel

          Joel, Johns correct, but if you look at the photo were the wheel is out of level all you had to do was un screwed the steering wheel from the hub and rotate it to level. Is your car built before Jan 63 I see that you have clutch head screws in the hub, Thanks Phil 8063
