You've got to get up to the headlamp switch with one hand and push down on the spring loaded pin / screw and twist the knob while pulling out and it should come right out, maybe....these are real bugers.
Pulling the left side dash pad loose and getting your hand in from the top will help, but it's still a challenge.

I'd unfasten the negative battery cable before I'd reach up there. As Marty said it's a tight fit. It's been a while since I've done this, but as I recall the spring loaded release button is on the top of the switch. It helps if you are a bit of a contortionist. Very good point. I forgot to mention that and I'm glad you brought it up. I really don't care what you do electrically on a corvette (or any other vehicle) you always need to disconnect the NEG. side of the battery / circuit. There's been posts regarding some pretty bad results from disregarding the disconnect procedure.
