Can't beat the warranty and I KNOW WalMart will be around for many years just in case I do have a problem with it. There's a new battery waiting for me at every WalMart in just about every town in this country if I need one.
Stuck a Maxx into my Tahoe after the 2 Delco's both leaked (original that came with it, and the warranty replacement from the Dealer) at the positive posts. Created a nice mess for me both times, had to pull everything apart and clean and repaint where the acid ran.

Maxx is doing fine, no leaking and works good.

      Joe,
I guess im not up with Delphi. I thought delphi batteries there where in the newer corvettes, Delco had so many problems with dead batteries on the Corvettes after sitting for just weeks at atime, like so many do here in the northeast.

        Re: Battery replacement

I stopped at my local independent parts store and checked out some of thier batteries.
Most Delco batteries were marked made in Korea except some marked "professional" which were Made in USA.
The Deka brand batteries were made in either USA or Mexico.
So there seems to be some choices if a Delco battery is desired.

It's possible that the Delco batteries used in later C5's and, possibly, early C6's were still made by DELPHI. However, for at least the past 2 years I don't think that any battery used in any vehicle or sold in SERVICE was of DELPHI manufacture. Actually, I think it's a lot longer than 2 years since DELPHI has manufactured batteries.

The DELPHI of today is a WHOLE LOT different than the DELPHI that existed at the time that it was created as a GM "spin-off" company, taking most of GM's parts manufacturing operations with it.

I believe I have an NOS 62 battery that's never been charged if you really need as close to original as possible. I've been saving it for my early 63 fuelie but could possibly part with it for someone who would give it a good home, keep it warm, charged, etc.

I have had good success with Interstate batteries. I will not put one in my '65 Coupe but the one I just replaced in a '99 Suburban was 9 years old. And the one in a atv Argo 8 wheeler I have was put in in 1997(!) These are their 'Megatron' (best) brand batteries.

Since I last posted in this thread, my Restoration "Wet" battery gave up the ghost so I now have a dry one which is holding up well here in Florida, all things considered.

My driver has the best Auto Zone battery in it and it's been replaced under their warranty twice now for free! They never make it to a full three years down here, and each time they are about to fail, the symptoms are different. Last time I was getting false "Security" warning lights and the car wouldn't start for awhile. Then all of a sudden it would start right up like nothing was wrong and do so fo another week or so. I was convinced it was an electronic problem, but the dealer service department said no codes were set to indicate this. They suggested I have the battery checked where I bought it if it was still under warranty - which I did. That is the first thing I will do again in another 2-1/2 years!

I used repo tar top batterys in my 62 over the years and had nothing but trouble with them. If your not going to have it judged don't use them. I finally installed an Optima which has been great. It holds a charge forever and cranks like crazy. I put a tar topper on it and for got about it. I think they're the best way to go. Rich

I too use Delco in everything. Consistently get 7 to 10 years life. Someone referenced Everstarts. I put two sets of them in my F**d diesel within two years. The last set that went bad I did not go back for another warranty set. I bought a pair of Delco's and they are about 3 years old right now.

Agree w/Michael I'v had the WalMart in the L78 and a MoPar 440 both of which sometimes sit idle for several weeks between drives and it fires them off first try - the L78 has been in the car about 4 years and the MoPar 5+ years - course neither are for judging or shows - just drives

One of the most important part of buying a battery is the lenght of time it has been sitting since it had water added to it. If it is more than 3 months old, move on to an other battery, as they will start to sulfate and reduce the life of the battery. The site below in section 4.4 tells you how to tell the mfg and the date code indicator. There is also some very interesting other facts in this site.

What is the deduction for having an AC Delco replacement battery? I have done the $300/2 year correct battery routine previously with a Chevelle I had and that got old pretty fast. If you use one of those Optima battery 'toppers' is the deduction any less (I am new to the NCRS judging scene.) Tks.

                            Mike -

It's 50% of originality points, as noted in the "Corvette Judging Reference Manual" standard deductions section.
