    New forum area?

I would like to propose to have a additional forum targetted on NCRS events (questions about them, photo postings, comments and suggestions, etc.)

Would such an area be considered useful and have added value to split these treads of from the tech. postings?

    regards,
    Rob Musquetier

Hey Rob I find it hard enough getting the time to visit the site each day and to start splitting topic areas might be difficult to accommodate.

I do understand and do agree with your concern but I would expect the NCRS matters specific forum wouldn't be as active as the Tech forum is. This means the need to visit the "NCRS matters forum" would be less frequent and postings shouldn't go out of sight as quickly as they do on the Tech board...

Just a thought and my two euro cents...

      regards,

I'd rather have an "off topic" or "non-technical" discussion area.
I think that would get used more than an NCRS event board.

NCRS used to have an "off topic" / "non-technical" forum. Ultimately, that is why Vetteheads was created.

FYI - the previous non technical/off topic forum was greatly abused and was often disparaging. Gary....

In both cases, a simple matter of opinion.......and what would keep the same thing from happening on this "new" forum.

But the REALLY important question is....WHO decides what is abuse and / or disparaging comments?

Want to take bets on how long this post lasts.....

                  Re: New forum area?

I'm not advocating either way. I just have a question. If I had an "events" question, or any other non technical question, where would I post it under the current forum discussion structure? It doesn't seem to me that there is a place to pose such a question properly. It wouldn't be "technical", you can't post in "archives", it wouldn't be "forum help" and it wouldn't be "test forum". I guess it would have to go in "technical", even though it's not a technical question.

                    Ken,

My suggestion would be to just not have a question that was not technical.

Jokes aside, the forum was abused by people just wanting to be heard or press their political agenda on everyone else.

It didn't work then and it won't work now!

Some of those people started their own discussion board and are now happy calling this the "dark board".

From time to time as NCRS members they TRY to press their agenda on this board. They are usually asked to leave their politics at the door and this is a technical board.

By the way, this is a technical answer!

                    JR

                      Re: New forum area?

I'm an old big block guy, and as most know, we're slower thinking. Let me make sure I understand the concept of the technical discussion board.
It's for,.......technical discussions between club members, concerning technical issues related to Corvettes of the vintages that are accepted into events sanctioned by the NCRS. Hence, the name,....."technical discussion board".
But it's not for,........say, discussions directed at pushng one's own political views about this great country, or say,.......views on the negative points that one may come up with, on a subject such as the relationship between large industrial conglomerates, and labor unions? Just for example?
                      I think I have it.
In short, it appears, that the TDB is for: technical discussion of any issue that come up in the hobby of seeking, purchasing, restoring or preserving, and maintaining vintage Corvettes, between like minded individuals, who share a love for these old pieces of American history. How refreshing. Who came up with this great idea?
And, now you tell me, there are other forums,......where people who wish to express (and try to influence others), can post those political viewpoints, such as Vetteheads, or the Corvette Forum? So,.....no one is left out?
Thank you for clearing this matter up. Ridge

                        Re: New forum area?

The way I see it, this is the offical NCRS forum. There's no other forum run by NCRS for NCRS. So we should have some subforums for off topic discussion. Its been requested to have a wanted list for instance. an off topic area would be good too. I would prefer to see tech posts on the tech forum, but I wouldn't mind browsing an off topic area too. Then I don't beed to see stuff I'm not interested in. Generally speaking, folks on this forum are more respectful towards each other than your run-of-the mill forum because everyone knows:

YOU MIGHT BUMP INTO SOME OF US SOME DAY

With some moderation, it should all work out OK. Really, I don't understand why there is so much resistance to having some subforums. There will be just as many posts over all and just as many people, aside from the forum perhaps growing membership when there is more to do on it.

If you're asking for a wish list, I'd like to see fewer non-technical post on the technical board.

There's plenty of other web sites for off topic discussion.

I think such a subsection might be useful for posting more up-to-date info on events, etc.

I'd prefer not to have an "Off Topic" section for politics, jokes, etc.
