    Re: New forum area?

    Rob,
I think a sub heading/forum on news and events would be a great idea. I also think that a "For Sale/Trade/Wanted" section would also be a great idea.

      Hey Rob,

I'd be happy to help monitor new sections. Someone just needs to agree to do it and let me know how I can help

I just get the feeling folks who can make the changes would rather be playing with their cars :P And who can blame them? I do computer stuff for a living and I'd rather be playing with my car too.

I really think the current tech board is great. However, if a lot of people want the non-tech stuff removed and handled elsewhere, what the hey? I don't even see why a non tech board would have to be monitored. If people want to be idiots in a restricted forum, give them free rein and they'll destroy their own credibility eventually and no one will view their posts. I get a lot of info on people going to events, cars that will be there, etc. that are certainly non-tech, but informative as well. As long as the current board doesn't object, why fix something that isn't broke?

                Hi Rob,
I would like to see a more casual forum in addition to the existing TECHNICAL DISCUSSION BOARD.
At every NCRS event I attend, people are standing around TALKING. I'm sure they are not all technical discussions. People just like to talk about these cars in general.
                Happy New Year!
                Regards,

Have you ever read the comments on the bottom of you tube while down loading clips. That's how a non monitored forum ends up. Not a good idea the comments are shocking and I'm no Stiffy. I think a members parts for sale would be a better idea.

                    Stewart,
I totally agree......nothing shocks me anymore, but some of those comments are so unnecessary.
The persons uttering such nonsense sound like they have the IQ of a snowball.
Would hate to see this forum attract those folks.
(None of our members would do that.)

I don't think we should have an unmonitored area, but just a separate area that you would click on the same website that takes you to the general area or the wanted parts area. Monitoring helps keep people civil, if the full names and NCRS IDs aren't enough :P

Some of those people started their own discussion board and are now happy calling this the "dark board".

By the way, this is a technical answer!

JR you got that wrong we referred to it as the "dark side" because the old board had a black background with yellow letters. by the way HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!

                          Re: New forum area?

I've read how the moderators would like to grow the board membership. If we are chasing people to other boards because we don't offer people what they would like, then we are generally going to have a stagnant number of people using the board... The people who are happy with it, and the people who are indifferent to it. The more people we reach, the more possibilities open up.

For instance, within my own chapter I find its sometimes difficult to communicate with people. We meet once a month, few really email out to each other for reminders, there's no yahoo or google email group, they aren't interested in making their own local website forum, etc. If we had a local chapter section that people could use for local chapter business, that would be beneficial to the NCRS as a whole. I'm just throwing out ideas. Services like this make it more valuable to be a member of NCRS and would cost a minimal amount, since we already have the forum in place.

I think this is a wonderful suggestion, I'll discuss this as well with out IT group to put it in a proposal to the board...

I must agree. All forums MUST be monitored in this day and age. The Internet is a fairly anonymous medium and some people think they can say ANYTHING with impunity. I would like to see a few targeted forums as long as we have the resources available to monitor AND MAINTAIN them. Some of you may not realize it but there is much more to maintaining a website/forum than simply monitoring it. There are backups, disk management, archiving, etc. All of this has to be done by people who are volunteering their time (i.e. they ain't gettin paid for this).

As for enforcing participation standards, it's really not that tough. As a forum monitor of other sites, the rules were real simple; violate the posting policy once - you received a warning. Do it again and ALL your site privileges were revoked.
