    Re: 1970 Corvette hose clamps

I didn't find anything related in the air cleaner section. I found clamp references in AIR, crankcase ventilation, water pump bypass, heater hoses, expansion tank, fuel pump lines, power steering lines, PCV and power brake booster hoses. Probably more there that I haven't found.

Scott, I located 2-#28 Sure-Tite clamps, one has ALL STAINLESS stamped under WITTEK the other has CHL U.S.A. (BOTTOM) Also the #32 has smaller size stamping (Sure-Tite) not block lettering, script, All clamps use a 5/16 socket. I also located 2- "DCM" 1 1/4" HEATER HOSE clamps, no date, but not "DMC", 1 13/16 according to JM, I noticed Terry used "DCM" also, NOT "DMC" I wonder if there is error in JM ????? about "DCM" vs "DMC" and size 1 1/4 vs 1 13/16, any thoughts??

O.k. Terry I did a typo error, JM says 1 3/16" not 1 13/16", as I previously typed. I found digging in my bins two -1 1/4" DCM (NO DATE) hose clamps, no 1 3/16" found yet, they look like "JM" fig. M 21.3 tower type (sae TYPE C radial) so they may be similar, but due to size not correct for early 70, is that right ????? Like fastners there sure a lot of variations!! Steve

Maybe just recess. I didn't hear the bell.

DMC...that's funny. I never made the connection.

I assume that all clamps that are dated have a dating criteria much like the rest of many of the components on the car. The three year thing for the crankcase hose tower clamps threw me a bit. Another application states a year. Another states the tower clamps are to be dated but give no indication the acceptable time span (six months, year, three years?).

There is so much emphasis placed on correct dated this and correct dated that, correct this part and correct that part. Not a slam but it seems to permeate a lot of discussions here particularly the C-1 to C-3 groups. For many of us owners it's important to us. For the NCRS judges I'll bet they get real tired of hearing it.

Thanks for taking the time and looking all this up. You've been a great help and I'm sure that this has been good information for others who were unsure.

Steve, I have 32s and 28s and various smaller Sure-Tites. Most all have WITTEK MFG. CO. CHI. on the screw housing. One has All Stainless Steel on the screw housing. Some have Sure-Tite in vertical script and some have the script in horizontal fashion. I have never seen a DCM clamp but hope to have a few one day. Finding the dated/nondated 1-1/16" and 1-3/16" for my '70 is a bit hard but they do pop up now and then. I also need the black phosphate spring clamps. Just having those correct little things on my engine makes a big difference to me. To me they are as obvious as the radiator and expansion tank caps.
