This phenomenon, taken to the extreme, would degrade the overall knowledge level within the judging ranks, thereby allowing cars with errors to slip through to Silver or Gold status. The net result is a reduction in the perceived value of a Bloomington award.......

I'm not saying this is happening, but this could be the result if knowledge is lost and not written down. NCRS faces the same issue, but has the manuals to fall back on.

      Chris,
Shortly after you register your car for judging at Bloomington Gold they will ask you for some of the dates and numbers from the car. That information is given to the judges before the event so that they come to the meet with a list of the cars they are to judge and the dates and numbers of major components of those cars.

This feature allows the judges to research the car before they get to the meet; so all they have to do when judging the car is verify the information on the car is that which they received. Thus they come to the event knowing for example if the engine, carburetor, alternator and so on is numbered and dated within the acceptable range. They then only have to assess the other features of the unit. This saves a lot of time.

You will also receive contact information for the judging division leader, so you can contact that person with any technical questions leading up to the meet. You will likely recognize the name of that person.

Of course, as you found out, there is an office staff to help with organizational questions. From an administrative standpoint there is a decided advantage to holding an event at the same location regularly. One becomes familiar with the facilities and staff at the host venue.

NCRS faces a huge challenge holding major events at different locations with different people in the administrative positions. It is a credit to the people running the events that they go as well as they do.

        Great perspective, thanks Terry.

All in all, I very much look forward to having my car judged at the NCRS chapter level, NCRS regional/national level, and BG.

I have just started judging at the NCRS chapter level (done it twice), and each time I learn a TON about the car. It's so much fun that I'm already talking to The Boss about doing a second restoration, and this one is only half done! SHEESH!

WOW, lots of replies, great information and tips. I'm going to see how I do at the Lone Star Regional October 2009. I believe with some more work and $'s' I can get the car in the 97% range (without mileage bonus). Then I'll decide on BG for 2010.

The responses left me with 2 major concerns:
          1. Car was re-painted base/cc - some of the shine was de-emphases in door jams, wiper grills and under top lid.
          2. Car was undercoated by the NYC dealer where I purchased it - I don't want to tackle removing the undercoating.

Thank you to all who replied.
          Ron
