    Stephen,

That's the cleanest rear suspension/differential area I've ever seen!

      Gary, I'll second that......WOW.

Stephen, when did you say you're stopping by for a work session?

      Did I say WOW?

I think I would be afraid to drive something that purty. Not really, but it is clean....Did you have the Trailing Arms rebuilt, or do them yourself?

      Thanks,
      David

I am going to give that a thirdsy!!!!!! Outstanding. I drive my 67 regularly in the Detroit area summer season and clean the underside regularly but I would be afraid to drive Stephen's car.

          Thanks for the compliments.
Unfortunately, I restored this all myself and built a damn trailer queen. I rarely drive it for fear of damage or dirt. Used to drive it regularly before restoring.

Yeah. I was thinking I could eat off that. But I might get it greasy!

              David D.,

Here is a picture of the reassembly of my rear spring. All the tools you need are two big C-clamps (you probably only REALLY need one, but I like to be safe), a long screw driver to keep the leaves in line with one another, and the right socket for the nut. It is pretty easy.

                Stephen,
I have a solution for you.
                1) You give me your car, and I drive it like she's stolen....
                2) I give you my car, you can drive it, and work on it. She doesn't need much......
When you get her all done, we simply swap back. Then
you'll feel comfortable driving your 'once was a trailer queen'

Problem Solved. No thanks necessary, it's what I do.

                  Chris,
Thanks...for me a picture is worth a thousand words. I think I'm going to give this a try some time in the near future....It's hard for me to figure out if it really needs rebuild, or simply paint.
I guess thinking about it, anything 40+ years old more than likely needs a rebuild....

Looking at the pic now of it disassembled, I'll say it again:
                    wrong liners.

I agree - the ends of the "H" section of the liners should be clearly visible; mine are from Quanta.

It's too bad Quanta doesn't sell the liners precut. I knew that if I ordered liners (uncut) from Quanta that I'd cut them wrong. That's just my luck.

Ok, this thread has me exited and ready for another job. My rear spring on the 67 is a replacement (and not a very good one at that). I'm headed to BG next month and different springs are on my radar. What year works, and if I can't find a good set who makes the best reproduction?

Steve, I fourth that about your "rear end"!! PRETTY SHARP!!

As I recall Quanta does sell pre-cut liners. Just tell them the year of the car. Why, on a 63 there is no liner between the top leaf and the second leaf, on 64 to 67 there is no liner between leaf 3 and leaf 4. I can't recall what 68 and up have.

                              Henry -

I think the best reproduction out there is made by Eaton Detroit Spring (www.eatonsprings.com); order it unpainted, get the Quanta kit (paint and liners), take the spring apart, paint it, re-assemble, and install. That's where I got mine. They have both versions (the '63 with all nine leaves cambered, and '64-'67 with the top three leaves flat and the bottom six cambered).

                                Top 3 flat vs. curved

                                Chris,

John mentioned the geometry of top three leaves. I'm confused why 2 of your 3 top leaves are curved. The top 3 leaves should all be straight, or all be curved, but not a mix of the two.
